A Compact Handpiece with Unparalleled Power

The Tornado from Bien-Air

Time truly is money in the dental profession, so any advantage—large or small—is important. With this in mind, Swiss medical technologies company Bien-Air developed a product that offers dentists a big advantage in a small package: the Tornado high-speed handpiece. Featuring the industry’s most powerful turbine, the Tornado enables faster dental procedures and thus improves the efficiency and profitability of dental clinics around the world that utilize it.

Equipped with SteadyTorqueTM technology from Bien-Air, the Tornado delivers an exceptional power output of 30 w—the highest currently available on the market—due to the masterful engineering of the rotor’s micron-precise shape and configuration, coupled with optimal air pressure distribution and exhaust flow. The turbine’s head is ergonomically compact, and the exclusive technology is complemented by specially designed ceramic ball bearings capable of handling the highest speed and heaviest loads, guaranteeing the Tornado superior durability and resilience.

“The Tornado is setting a new standard in its category,” says Marco Gallina, Vice President, Global Marketing for Bien-Air. “It helps alleviate the No. 1 dentist concern—lack of time—while promising users the level of quality and reliability that they have come to expect from our company.”

Bien-Air has been developing superior-quality instruments for the various fields of dental medicine since 1959. Renowned for its high-quality, reliable, and innovative products, the company develops instruments that simplify the day-to-day work of practitioners and constantly improve patient comfort.

Operating at an unparalleled 55-dB sound level and at a rotation speed of 410,000 rpm, the Tornado skillfully combines performance with user and patient comfort. In this respect, it is no coincidence that Bien-Air chose the Tornado to premiere such features as a new spray/lighting system and an improved bur-locking mechanism.

“These innovations come to complement some of our technologies that have proven most effective over the years,” Gallina says. “And to guarantee superior durability, the Tornado is fitted with custom-designed ceramic ball bearings capable of handling the highest speed and heaviest loads.”

The Tornado also features the Accu-Check PreciPlus bur-locking and rotation drive mechanism. This revolutionary technology assures a staunch clamping of the bur, eliminating all vibrations and granting the Tornado unequaled stability and comfort for the most precise dental work. Conversely, bur release is made quick and safe, thanks to Bien-Air’s unique Soft Push system.

The exclusive Accu-Spray Quattro Mix with LED illumination converges four asymmetrical laser-precise air/water sprays onto the tip of the bur for rapid and even cooling of the operative field. In combination with an LED light, this guarantees unobscured intraoral visibility.

The Sealed Head contamination control, a wear-resistant, labyrinth-design mechanism, is combined with an anti-retraction valve to prevent oral fluids and other organisms from infiltrating the instrument’s head, water lines, and treatment unit. This obviates the risk of patient cross-contamination and noticeably prolongs the ball bearings’ lifespan.

Cool Touch safety is conveniently integrated into the head’s push button. Composed in part by a tungsten carbide bead, this patented anti-heating technology is designed to maintain the instrument’s head at a safe temperature, significantly decreasing patient burn injuries.

TotalTact coating, which is smooth, hygienic, and nonslip, presents elevated resistance to scratching and abrasion and withstands the high temperatures of repeated autoclave sterilization cycles.

The Tornado’s head diameter (12.2 mm), head size (13 mm), and weight (58 g) provide more advantages. The optimal diameter and height of the Tornado’s head facilitates maneuverability and posterior access. The Tornado’s comparatively lighter weight pushes the limits of comfort even further with more balanced manipulation and reduced hand and wrist fatigue. It also allows for freedom of movement for optimal working comfort. Thanks to its light, rotating Unifix quick-connect connection and an easy-to-use secure release, the Bien-Air turbine and hose in combination will prove a pleasant work companion on a daily basis.

Bien-Air’s commitment is to first-rate quality. The convergence of the most advanced micro-technologies and more than 50 years of industry expertise and innovation ensures quality and reliability without compromise. “Think of the Tornado as a cornerstone of your practice and a fundamental component of your reputation,” Gallina says.
